Getting Around: It takes half an hour to reach NY Penn Station in Midtown via NJ Transit. From Penn Station, you may transfer to the Subway, the LIRR, or Amtrak. A car is necessary to get around Rutherford itself.
What to Eat: Rutherford is a dry town, so you won’t find a good bar here. But there are plenty of good eateries. Rutherford Pancake House is a good choice for breakfast, try the chocolate chip pancakes or the Irish Benedict. For a quick meal, Boom Boom Chicken does Korean takeout. And if you’re in town for a special occasion, make a reservation at Cafe Matisse.
Things to Do: There’s a thriving arts scene here thanks to Rutherford-native William Carlos Williams. The famed poet spent his life in Rutherford where he also worked as a doctor. Today, the William Carlos Williams Center for the Performing Arts has two performance halls for ballet, concerts, opera, and theater; there are performances year-round. Football fans find it convenient that MetLife Stadium (home of the NY Jets and NY Giants) is just a few miles away.
