La Quinta is the only hotel near the Beach 44th Subway station in Far Rockaway. Rates are okay for the area at an average of $149/night on weekdays and $171/night on weekends. Parking, breakfast, and WiFi are all free, plus pets are allowed. It’s a laid-back and affordable hotel with great staff. Across hundreds of online reviews, guests complimented the housekeeping staff and appreciated the mini fridge and microwave in each room. We recommend the La Quinta if you’re flying out of JFK Airport and you’d like to visit the beach during your stay.

Rockaway is a nice destination for for those who want to split time seeing NYC and relaxing at the beach.
Neighborhood Vibe: This beachside community is just across the bay from JFK Airport. The relaxed pace of life here is completely the opposite of the bustle of New York City just an hour away. New Yorkers enjoy coming here to visit the beach and relax while residents like being able to visit Manhattan so easily.
Getting Around: It’s takes an hour and fifteen minutes on the Subway to reach Times Square, so if you’re primary objective is sightseeing in Manhattan, Far Rockaway is not the most convenient place to stay. However, it’s only a 25 minute drive to JFK Airport, by Subway it’s about 40 minutes.
What to Eat: Restaurants in the area are concentrated around the Far Rockaway – Mott Av. Subway station, three stops from the Beach 44th station. The only restaurant in walking distance of Beach 44th is New Garden, an okay place for Chinese food. If you head over to the Far Rockaway – Mott Av. area, Magic Wok is a better choice for Chinese food. In that same area, Robert’s Delight serves Caribbean food and Mario’s is the spot for a pizza or burger.
Things to Do: Rockaway Beach is a popular place to spend the day getting some sun and swimming. Learn about the flora and fauna of Long Island at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge where over 60 species of butterfly have been spotted as well as hundreds of birds, reptiles, and mammals.
