Of the two Paramus is further out in the New Jersey suburbs. Ride time into Manhattan is about 50 minutes, at Irvington the ride time is less, about 30 minutes. Some people did not like the surroundings in Irvington and felt uncomfortable. This was not the case in Paramus, NJ.
